Meet the Maker

Hi, I’m Melissa—the hands, heart, and unfiltered commentary behind Peanut Gallery Ceramics.
I was born and raised in Tullahoma, Tennessee, and at the ripe old age of nineteen, I packed up and moved across the country to Tucson, Arizona in search of a fresh start. Life since then has included two amazing sons, more than a few unexpected turns, and several opportunities to rebuild myself from the ground up.
I experienced many less-than-ideal situations as I was growing up, which eventually led to complex PTSD, followed later in life by diagnoses of ADHD and autism. After years of people-pleasing, masking, and trying to navigate a nervous system I didn’t yet understand, I finally began learning how to live in a way that is true to myself.
I signed up for my first pottery class during one of the darkest points of my life - navigating autistic burnout. Working with clay gave me a place to slow down, get messy, experiment, and reconnect with a part of myself I had buried long ago. Somewhere between the wheel, the glaze buckets, and the kiln, I realized I might just have an artist’s soul after all.
Peanut Gallery Ceramics grew from that discovery. “Peanut” is a nickname given to me more than twenty years ago by a dear—and wonderfully artistic—friend. “Peanut Gallery” is also a playful nod to my autism and my tendency to occasionally say the unexpected thing out loud. Here, the commentary isn’t unwanted—it’s part of the art.
My ceramics are whimsical, functional, and sometimes slightly feral. I love blown-bubble details, flowers, layered glazes, rich colors, organic forms, and cheeky phrases that make everyday objects feel a little more alive. Each piece is made by hand, which means every curve, glaze variation, and perfectly imperfect detail has its own personality.
Peanut Gallery Ceramics is more than a business. It’s proof that something joyful can grow from the hardest seasons—and that rebuilding your life can be messy, beautiful, and entirely your own.
